I'm making pasta!

The other day Kevin was putting Kylie down for a nap. Landan and Gavin were supposed to be in their room for Quiet Time when Kevin heard something funny in the kitchen. He came out to investigate and found Landan halfway into the cupboard where the pots are. So he asked what he was doing:

Daddy: What are you doing?

Landan: I'm making something.

Daddy: What are you making?

Landan: Pasta.

Daddy: Pasta huh? do you know how to make pasta?

Landan: I'm making dry pasta, with sauce and a snack on the side.

So what do you think, do we have another Rachel Ray on our hands?

Cute kids...and so well dressed

We were going out on the town last Sat. so I dressed the kids up in some new/cute clothes. I had to take pictures of them since they looked so good.

This is Gavin's new fashion statement. He put his hat on like that by himself. He wears it like that every day.

Halloween...a little late

Here's our Halloween pictures. I got a little behind because of the accident.

Here we have the trick or treaters: Kenny and Nathan are ninjas and Landan is Peter Pan and Gavin is an indian.

The toddlers favorite pasttime, sharpening pencils to nothing.

Working on a Halloween project.

Cooking with Aunt Chiara and James.

Trunk or Treating. Thsi would bee Thing One and Thing Two (the later years)
Captain Hook, Wendy, Peter Pan, an Indian, and Tinkerbell (I made Landan, Kylie, and my costume. I"m pretty proud of myself)

Kylie's first food

We started Kylie on solids a few weeks ago. She LOVES it. She was definately ready. Here is her first bites of rice cereal.

Cars...they stink.

I tell you, I have had more car trouble since I moved to Austin then I have ever had in my entire life of driving. Since I was 16, I had only had one accident and not tickets. I had never even been pulled over before. I moved to Austin when I was 26. Since then, it has been 3 years, I have had the following:

3 tickets-2 of which I got within the first 6 months of being here

2 flat tires- Ironically enough they happened almost exactly 1 year apart from each other

1 accident- which totaled our brand new used van that we had been paying on for a whopping 3 months

My most recent car trouble started at the end of Oct. when I got in the car accident and wrecked our van. See post here http://nursemom-thompsonfam.blogspot.com/2010/10/car-accident.html . We are now a one car family. So, we have to get up earlier every day so I can take Landan to school, and then Kevin to work. Or, on days I work, we have to get up even earlier so that Kevin can take me to work, take Landan to school, and then get to work. Then do it all again in reverse at night. Makes for a lot of time spent in the car. I was on my way to pick Kevin up from work yesterday and then we were all going to go to Landan's therapy before heading home when I got a flat tire about a mile away from my house. I was stranded on the frontage road of a major highway with another flat. If you'll remember, I did this almost exactly a year ago. See post here http://nursemom-thompsonfam.blogspot.com/2009/11/humiliating-night.html . Except this time it wasn't at night, I had all the kids with me, and I actually had a working spare tire from the last time. The only problem was, I don't know how to change a flat tire and I didn't have the tools to do it with anyway.

So I spent the next 15-20 calling around to people in the ward hoping one of their husbands would be home at 4:00 in the afternoon. Not an easy thing to find. Kevin can't help me, he's stuck at work waiting for me. It just so happens that Russell, our babysitters husband, happened to have gotten off work early and came to my rescue. Thank you very much, I don't know how long I would have been stranded there. So we went and got Kevin but by that time we were late for therapy so Landan didn't get to go. What a mess.

I am so sick of car trouble. There must be some bad karma between my cars and Austin. Anyone know where I can buy a trouble free car?

Big Boy, Little Girl

We just had another joint doctor's appt. Gavin is normal in the 25% weighing 28 1/2 lbs and

35 1/2 in tall. Everything else looks great.

Kylie, on the other hand, is really little. She's only 12 lbs and 24 in (at 6 mo). Now it may be that she"s just petite, or it may just be the way my children are (Landan was 12 lbs 13 oz at 6 mo, Gavin was around 14 lbs). But the doctors concern is that she started out in the 25% and has now dropped below the chart. So we're just going to go weigh in a little more frequently to make sure she's still growing.

At least she's cute!

San Antonio trip

And here's for some catch up. In the middle of August we went down to San Antonio to visit my brother and sister in law and see their new house. Norah was really obsessed with the baby (I have recently discovered that most little girls are obsessed with her.)

We went to this really cute park. The kids had a lot of fun running around.

We saw a bunch of ducks.
And some turtles.
Then we got the kids dressed up and went to Sea World. Here was have a pilgrim, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and an indian. Very cute little people.
It was a really fun weekend. Thanks for letting us come play!

Shooting where I work

I came in to work today at 3 pm and discovered my way blocked by police tape and cars. I then found out that there had been a shooting close to my hospital. Here's the link. Scary. http://www.myfoxaustin.com/dpp/top_stories/Police-Search-for-Shooter-in-North-Austin-2010110210-ktbcw
