Teaching Your Child About Charity

We were at Walmart the other day and Landan saw a jar for the Children's Miracle Network on the counter while we were checking out. He saw money in it so he wanted to put some in as well. Our conversation went as follows...

Landan: I want to put money in the jar.

Mom: I don't have any change with me sweetie.

Mom (after a minute): Wait, Landan, I see a penny on the floor. Pick it up and you can put it in the jar.

Landan: (puts the penny in) So what do I get?

Mom: Nothing. That money is for little kids who are sick and in the hospital.

Landan: I want my penny back then.

Mom: We can't get it back. It's for the sick kids. We already gave it to charity.

Landan: (Pointing to the cashier) How did you know her name is Charity?

I guess I have been remiss in my duties to teach my child about what Charity is. Guess what our next Family Home Evening will be about.

Landan's Gymnastics

Landan had his gymnastics exhibition this last weekend for the year. Basically all the little kids got together and got into groups and rotated through the events (trampoline, floor, beam, and bars) doing skills they had been working on. Landan started out the year pretty loose and not able to do much but he loves it now and practices constantly at home so he's getting really strong. He's going to be in a 6 yr old boys class this summer even though he's not 6 yet. His coach thinks he'll do really well in the boys class. We were so proud of him.

Everyone got a medal after the event. This is called a flash. Apparently boys only do one arm and girls do two. You do this at the end of your routine.
Enjoy the video. This kids got a lot of power.

Photo Shoot!

The greatest part about having a little girl is being able to dress her up. Before my mom left we got some of her newborn outfits and had her first fashion shoot. She was a natural. She was awake and quiet the whole time. This first one is one of my favorites. The bow was made by my friend. Her blog is on my sidebar, (Cranberries and Capers). Thanks so much Cindy, it looks great!!

Kylie's first bath

As you can see she is less than thrilled.

Ahhh...much better. She likes to be swaddled a lot.

Singin' in the Rain!

Gavin Loves Rain. This was water that was dripping off our roof. He loves to play in water.

Gavin is Two!

Before our new baby came, my second baby turned two. He's getting so big. He's so sweet and always smiling. It's so easy to make him happy. And he such a cuddly little boy too. He loves to give hugs and kisses. He gives kisses to his sister all the time. We had a small little party with just the 4 of us at home. I made his cake. We did presents first because Gavin got a sesame street movie, then we watched it while we had grilled hamburgers for dinner. Then we had cake. It was fun.

Gavin's first present was his sesame street movie. It's the only thing he will sit and watch. He loves it. It's the old school so it's the first show from the first five seasons. Very Old School.

He also got a bubble blowing lawn mower. He loved this present. He's played with it every day since. He got so excited whenever the bubbles came out.

And this was his cake. Happy Birthday Big Boy!!

Our Baby Girl!

Born May 7 @2:45 pm

Our little girl is finally here. She's absolutely beautiful and aside from having some trouble getting her days and nights mixed up at the beginning, she is a great baby. I plan on relating her birth story later for journaling purposes. Everything went smoothly and we're both doing really well. The boys are so excited, especially Landan. He loves to hold her all the time. Gavin surprisingly loves to hold her too. He really likes her. He doesn't particularly like the fact that i can't pay as much attention to him as much but so far he doesnt' seem to be taking it out on her which was my fear. My mom has been here to help out with that. She takes the baby so I can hold Gavin some so he doesn't feel completely misplaced.I think it has helped a lot. She's such a sweet baby but very little. she lost a lot of weight right off the bat so she was only 5 lbs. 6 oz when we brought her home but she's gained most of it back. She's a sweetheart. I think we'll keep her.

Please excuse the less than flattering, non-makeup look. i was tired.
